First campfire of the season!

This evening I made my first campfire of the season. To me it is a great event. April 19^th! The only reason I did not do it earlier was the danger of forest fire. It has been very windy around here lately and the soil and grass are very dry. But tonight came down a bit of water, enough to moisturize the soil and grass and make it safe. The scent of fire is reassuring so early in the spring. But the scent of the soil is even more wonderful to smell after so long an absence.

Ironically, there is still snow in the mountains as we can see on this picture. On a south slope with large cleared area the land is springlike more than the surrounding forest still under quite a bit of snow.
